With the versatility of powerful magnets, home decorators have an easier time creating a stylish space while organizing their personal belongings and keepsakes at the same time. Here are a few projects that are simple to do and make a space your own:
Create a magnetic board to hold pictures and notes
​Organize & Decorate Everything shares a way to decorate a magnetic board using magnetic flowers, clothespins and more. For materials for this project, you'll need: a magnetic board, a large piece of scrapbook paper, a pen or pencil, a glue stick, scissors, mod podge and craft adhesive like E6000, mini clothespins, neodymium magnets or other powerful magnets and paper or fake flowers.
In the first step, place the scrapbook paper on a flat surface and lay the magnetic board onto the paper. Take a pencil or pen and trace the shape of the magnetic board. Cut out the shape from the paper using scissors. Use a glue stick to cover the board with glue, making sure to get the edges. Place the paper onto the board and smooth it out. Wait about 15 minutes for the glue to finish drying. If you plan on having other decorated elements for the board like clothespins and buttons, now would be a good time to cut out paper to cover those and glue them on while waiting for the glue for the board to dry.
Squeeze out a little E6000​ or other craft adhesive to put on the underside of small magnets and stick the magnets underneath the decorative pieces like clothespins and flowers. You can then use a thin layer of mod podge as a sealer. Place the magnetic board anywhere you like and use the magnetic clothespins to hold pictures, notes, cards or other momentos.
Decorate surfaces using old fortunes
Another craft project by My Untangled Life involves turning fortunes from fortune cookies into magnets to decorate a refrigerator surface. This project requires fortunes, self-laminating sheets, a ruler, adhesive magnetic sheets or rolls and scissors.
Start by smoothing out the fortunes to make sure they are flat before spacing out the paper and placing them on the self-laminating sheet. These sheets will help protect them from being damaged during display on a flat surface. After following the directions on the self-laminating sheet package to encase the paper, cut out the fortunes with the scissors.
Cut a strip from the adhesive magnetic sheet or roll to stick the fortunes onto the fridge. Take off the backing from the sheet or roll and press the laminated fortune and magnet together for at least 10 seconds. Place the fortune magnets to enhance your kitchen, bedroom or other living space.
To embellish an entire wall or hall, a user from home design site Houzz suggests the idea of painting a wall using four coats of magnetic paint. Then you could put magnetic poetry tiles onto the wall for children to learn how to form different sentences or for adults to unleash their inner writer.
