Tech manufacturer Lenovo recently released a new kind of electronic device that uses magnets to combine both a laptop and tablet.
Laptop and tablet hybrids are becoming increasingly popular. Such devices like the Microsoft Surface fuse together the functionality of a laptop with a full-sized keyboard with the portability and touch screen of a tablet. Lenovo is recently introduced the Lenovo Miix 2 that incorporates magnets to differentiate itself from Microsoft's device.
The computer's powerful magnets allow the Lenovo Miix 2 to transform from a laptop to a tablet and back to a laptop. Tech blog The Verge demonstrated how simple it is to connect the tablet component of the Lenovo Miix 2 to the keyboard as the magnets help to snap the tablet into place.
The magnets secure the 8-inch tablet to the keyboard dock for stable typing or drawing on the device's monitor. Users can also use the keyboard to operate as a stand for easy-touch access to the touch screen of the tablet.
"Protect your screen when not in use, or use the cover to hold the tablet upright in stand mode," the Lenovo site described. "And with included stylus pen, you can take notes, edit documents or simply doodle on-the-go."
By turning the tablet around, users allow the Lenovo Miix 2's speakers located on the back of the keyboard to face them to optimize their media playing experience.
Logitech cover features magnetic dock
Other devices have integrated a similar magnetic function to connect tablets with keyboards, including the Ultrathin Keyboard Cover for iPad manufactured by Logitech. Like Logitech, tech manufacturers carefully choose to include magnets in their devices to adapt to the design of popular products like iPads. Apple created its tablet with magnets on the side, which improves its functionality, especially with electronics accessories like covers.
"The Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Cover securely attaches to your iPad - thanks to the clever magnetic clips," the tech company said on its website.
The magnetic clips function well with the iPad's built-in magnets, and when the keyboard cover and tablet are close, they align and the tablet and cover click together. As tech manufacturers continue to build devices with magnetic functions in mind, other companies are continually adapting and creating new innovations to complement these devices.
