Magnet Assemblies for Motors & Generators
Low weight, ultra-high temperature tolerance and excellent reliability make HSMAG magnets ideal for motors, actuators, and generators used in military, commercial, and aerospace applications.
HSMAG has extensive experience in designing and prototyping both axial flux and radial flux rotating machinery. Furthermore, our technology enables us to improve magnetic performance by a unique Halbach and interior magnet design, which has improved benefits in terms of power density, compact size, weight, and cooling, compared to conventional machines. This allows the overall size and weight of the motor to be reduced.
Our SmCo-UHT magnets have been used to design a high temperature motor (power 10kW, maximum speed 25krpm) for NASA space power system applications (SBIR Phase II project). HT-550 magnets are ideal for motors that require survivability in extreme high temperature (over 480°C) and high pressure (over 100 atmospheres).

Demagnetization curves of SmCo magnets for ultra-high temperature application
As can be seen from this figure, the extrinsic demagnetization curve is a straight line up to 550°C, which is important for dynamic ultra-high temperature applications. This means that the magnetic flux density is reversible up to 550°C. HSMAG is identifying opportunities for prototype and beta testing of permanent magnet applications with ultra-high temperature and high-speed conditions.
Magnet Assemblies for Inertial Devices
HSMAG also designs and manufactures magnetic assemblies for inertial guidance systems used in aircraft, marine vessels, spacecraft navigation and control systems. Inertial guidance systems typically use magnetic assemblies in:
Accelerometers
Instruments that measure acceleration, detect and measure vibrations, or measure acceleration due to gravity or inclination.
Gyroscopes
Devices that measure or maintain orientation.
Temperature compensated SmCo magnets provide precision control and stability for accelerometers and gyroscopes. Temperature coefficients of residual induction for magnets used in the applications can be controlled to better than 0.001% change in Br per degree C or 10 parts per million.
